I got to fire a 155 howitzer. If you look down the barrel when it fires you can catch a glimpse of the round after it leaves the barrel. It is something to see, even if it's just for an instant. I was surprised to find out they are fired by pulling a rope (lanyard). At least that is the way it was done in the 60s.
